About me
Hello and hola! Welcome to my Web page. I'm happy to use this page to introduce myself, and I look forward to meeting you in person. It's very important that you feel comfortable with your physician, and I hope this information will help you begin to get to know me.
Biography
I grew up in low-income housing projects in Los Angeles and, as far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a doctor. I was the first in my family to attend college. After graduating from Stanford University, I went to medical school at the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science/UCLA, and I did my residency at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center. After a year of research in gynecologic cancer at UCLA, I completed my fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital–Dana Farber Cancer Institute–Harvard Medical School. After three fabulous years in Boston, I returned to Southern California and took a position at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where I retain a clinical faculty appointment. I’m fortunate to have trained and worked at some of the best institutions, and I’m thrilled to be a part of Kaiser Permanente.
About my practice
I chose to be a gynecologic oncologist because I wanted to help women with complex medical conditions. I’m interested in both the surgical and non-surgical treatments of gynecologic cancers, and utilizing the latest in minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. I’m fascinated by the science of cancer biology, and I’m thrilled at the progress we’re making in the field of gynecologic cancers through member participation in clinical trials. Being your doctor is an enormous privilege and responsibility. I look forward to helping you understand your diagnosis and concerns, and formulating a treatment plan that’s right for you. I believe in a multi-disciplinary approach to your care, and I’m proud to work with a team of individuals that share a common goal—to treat you like family and deliver high-quality, compassionate care.
How I thrive
I embrace Kaiser Permanente's philosophy of treating the health of the whole individual. I believe in a healthy mind, body, and spirit. To that end, I enjoy running (I’ve completed two Boston Marathons), swimming, biking, and spending time with family and friends. When possible, I enjoy going to the theater and trying new restaurants. I speak Spanish and welcome non-English speaking members.
